We went to a “meet the candidate” night last evening. We spoke to leading local Republicans after the speeches and discussed with them the plight of seniors in Lake County being priced out of their homes, and the problems in public education.
We did hear that in the past there was an effort to increase State income taxes to help fund the public schools, but that did not get very far. Unfortunately, we do not have any details on this to share with you.
Our challenges to local and State Republicans are:
(1) Do you agree that we are pricing seniors out of their homes with ever increasing real estate taxes? If you do, what are you going to do about it?
(2) Do you agree that spending ~$24 billion in 2016 – 2017 for public education, and receiving an overall 1.55 grade point average for the 607 school districts in Ohio is not acceptable? If you do, what are you going to do about it?
(3) Do you agree that there are massive unfunded pension liabilities in the State’s many political sub-divisions? If you do, what are you going to do about it?
If the answer is nothing, then what is the difference between a Democrat and Republican?
Who is looking out for the senior citizens living on fixed incomes that are being priced out of their home? Who can we count on to defend us? Seniors helped build this great country, and now we believe that we are being marginalized. Pushed aside, because we are not in any party’s future………..Forget about us, and you will see us react at election time.
