State of Ohio’s Strategic Plan for All Schools….no mention of taxpayers

We have learned about meeting being held around the State of Ohio dealing with a new Strategic Plan for students in public schools.  Here is a link to their 18 page “Draft Plan”.

I have read this report and there several items that cause me some concern:
1. (Page 17) Prioritizing equity. The Strategic Plan must focus on strategies that meet the learning needs and aspirations of all students, especially students of poverty, students with disabilities, English language learners, and other students who face unique challenges.  (Comment: There is no mention of verifying legal status of all children. Local seniors should not be expected to educate the world.)

2. I could not find any mention of who will pay for these new concepts.  If they plan on funding these mandates on the backs of local taxpayers, especially seniors, then I would not support this initiative.

3. They strongly support continuing the College Credit Plus program. If the funding for this program continues to be paid by the local taxpayers then I am against it.  We cannot expect seniors living on fixed incomes to pay for college courses, in addition to supporting the local schools’ ever increasing operating costs.  It is simply not sustainable, and we are pricing them out of their homes.

There will be a meeting to discuss this initiative:
Where:  Ashtabula County Technical & Career Center
1565 OH-167
Jefferson, OH  44047
When: Tuesday, April 3, 2018    6:00 PM -8:00 PM (EDT)
Registration begins at 5:30 PM

You will need to pre-register for the event. Please contact Adrienne Wells (, (614)  914-2249 with any questions.

I plan on attending the meeting, and will report back to everyone.
